Hudson County CARES II Eviction Prevention Application

PLEASE READ BEFORE COMPLETING THIS APPLICATION

The Hudson County CARES II Eviction Prevention Program can provide back rent and/or utility assistance for households who have fallen behind as a result of COVID-19.

In order to qualify for assistance through this application, the household must meet the criteria listed below.

1.Must be a Hudson County Resident with the exception of Jersey City. Jersey City residents must seek assistance through the City of Jersey City. 2.Must show the need for rental or utility assistance is due to COVID-19;

3. Must have been current on rent as of March 1st 2020

4. Must show that one or more household member's qualified for unemployment or have experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs or experienced other financial hardships due directly or indirectly to COVID-19.                              

5.For rental assistance, must have received a summons for eviction or notice to quit from landlord

6.Must provide the following documents: copy of lease or other documentation showing residence, income documentation, some form of ID, documentation showing past due utility, rent, or eviction notice

7.Annual Household Income must not exceed 80% AMI, with priority given to household’s whose annual income is below 50%

If you do not meet this eligibility criteria please do not complete the application. Alternative resources are below:

1.If you are over income, contact a HUD certified housing counseling agency who may be able to assist you in developing a payment plan or other negotiation with your landlord. A list of housing counselors can be found here.

2.If your landlord is trying to evict you for a reason other than non-payment of rent, contact a legal services provider on this list.

3.If you own a home and are facing foreclosure, please reach out to The Waterfront Project at 551-256-7578.

4.If you are currently experiencing homelessness, contact Garden State Episcopal CDC at 201-604-2600 ext 0. Homelessness is defined as currently living in one of the following locations: place not meant for human habitation, shelter, transitional housing, hotel paid for by an organization or government agency, or unstable housing situation, such as residing in someone else’s home or pay for a hotel AND are being asked to leave that residence in 14 days with nowhere to go.
